My work explores the documentary genre, questioning how hopes, fantasies and preoccupations are woven into our understanding of experience. Using the camera’s frame as a space for performance, I re-imagine personal histories in an attempt to document what I feel I am unable to capture with the camera. I am attracted to the poetics of this paradox: I make work in an earnest effort to objectively examine the world, while aware of the absurdity of this act. At the same time, I believe there is empowerment in acknowledging that all experience is subjective - it gives us ownership and agency in creating our history.
